Great little secret in boothbay! They converted an old sail boat into a bar. The bartender is actually inside the boat serving drinks. It's so cool and right on the harbor outdoors. It's been here for 30+ years, don't know that many people know about this place as there is another place across the street with a similar name. Food is just ok with limited selection, but this is all about atmosphere! Have a drink and relax and meet the locals.

Great location and great atmosphere! The Chowder House used to be a larger restaurant, but now they just run an outdoor bar and grill. But they still have the chowder! As well as burgers, lobster rolls, etc. They have a "Boat Bar" which is literally a boat, and it is situated overlooking the inner harbor and the footbridge. It has a really relaxed atmosphere, and Ben, the grill guy, makes the best burgers in town!! My only complaint is that they don't serve french fries...but I do have an addiction, so I'm probably the only one who cares.

Awful. Slow slow service. Very mediocre chowder. Uncomfortable seats at the boat bar. Nice bartender. Skip this one. Go to the lobster dock

Nice atmosphere, away from the crowds of Boothbay in July. The staff was friendly and the "boat-bar" was cool to see. The food was ok but being a lifetime Mainer I certainly was not impressed with the chowder (though I wouldn't call it bad). Everything was served in Styrofoam (coffee, chowder etc) and we ate with plastic utensils.

I was there this summer in June (2011). I ordered their Lobster Roll (about $16.95) and their Seafood Chowder (about $5.95). The Chowder was served in a Styrofoam bowl (about 3/4 cup) and was basically warm milk with maybe one bite of some kind of seafood in it. The Lobster Roll possibly had 2 spoonfuls of lobster and was served on basically a "hotdog" bun. For what they charged, it was criminal and the food was awful! I left there very hungry, stopped at a roadside diner, paid $6.00 for a Lobster Roll and it had more lobster than roll. DO NOT RECCOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

Nice location and cute bar made from a boat but the food was pretty bad. Don't get the hamburger - a gray mealy disc that did not even resemble beef.

A neat spot to hang out, and one of the attractions is the Boat Bar: a boat that has stools around it and is the bar. The chowders are excellent, because they're not creamy and heavy, but lighter and broth-ier. I had the salmon chowder which had an excellent smoked flavor. They use nice soft rolls for their sandwiches; the burgers were OK, but I really wish I'd had something else (in addition to the delicious chowder, of course). Prices range from $6.95-15.95. They also don't have a whole lot for kids (i.e., no french fries or chicken nuggets), but the baked goods are homemade. The blueberry pie was lovely, with hints of lemon. The beer selection is well-thought out, focusing on local brews. In the summer, it's just the Boat bar that's open, not the main restaurant, but they do functions, too. The owners are super nice, and the waitstaff did a great job with our large group. Wear sunscreen, especially on a sunny day, because it's in a gorgeous spot on the water.

The atmosphere was pleasant. We met a very nice couple. The food was very good. The food was cooked on a grill full of flavor. We enjoyed our meal and the scenes. Pleasant owner and staff.

The venue gets an A right on the water. Clam chowder gets a C, same with the haddock chowder. Lobster roll was maybe a high C low B. Kinda skimpy. Only reason we came in was they had a bathroom.

This place had the best haddock and clam chowder. We have been to a lot of other restaurants in boothbay and was not impressed. Try their homemade blueberry pie they make fresh every morning. I am so glad we stumbled across this awesome restaurant.

Decent burger, nice bartender however there was a crying infant at the end of the bar that obviously would have been happier at home. I made a comment to the mother saying the baby should be at home at 8 pm at night. The father followed me into the parking lot yelling "that's my baby and I own the f'ing bar".....how unprofessional, I'll never go back, poor baby.
